Course: AREN 812 Building Control and Automation Systems

Author: Henze, Gregor
School: University of Nebraska - Lincoln
Department/Program: Architectural Engineering
Sub Area/Speciality: Building construction
Year: 2003

Portfolio Objective/Abstract:

The overriding reason for me to participate in the UNL Peer Review Project is to improve the effectiveness of making AREN 812 a truly integrated course. There are both undergraduate and graduate students in this course, so striking an appropriate balance between theoretical rigor and applications has been a challenge. Also, I intend to improve my teaching materials (notes etc.) along with mini-projects that will be interwoven with practical components of the course. This project represents an outstanding opportunity to formulate my philosophy about and approaches to teaching, which eventually will be necessary in the context of my upcoming promotion and tenure. In addition, the AE program will be applying for accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in the fall of 2003. ABET accreditation is required for our graduates to become licensed professional engineers. One key ABET requirement is the demonstration of continuous quality improvement. This portfolio will provide evidence of course review and improvement, as required by ABET.
