In addition to developing the course content and offering the pilot section, I wanted to use this course as an opportunity to examine particular aspects of my own teaching and student learning. Consequently, I developed a course portfolio to test a set of assumptions about new approaches to teaching an introductory methods course for preservice teachers. I wondered whether the introduction of the COAS pathways and M341 linkages in combination with other instructional strategies, could successfully support the preparation of future teachers who envision themselves as stewards of multicultural citizenship education in secondary social studies classroom.
