I have chosen to use a variety of measures of the course. Although student evaluations can be useful, I've chosen not to put those in this version of the portfolio. And although I would very much like to have had detailed evaluations from my Associate Instructors (and requested these evaluations), I understood why they didn't provide them. One, it was a lot of extra work and two, they are students in my department and not entirely free agents in that way. So I have also provided my own assessment of student learning for the course, which examines patterns in the course data. I have also provided several series of individual students' work, to illustrate paths taken by different students in the class.
This data was gathered by a procedure approved by the Indiana University Committee on Human Subjects as study #02-7024. Under these guidelines, I was not required to get permission from the students to use aggregated data. However, the students whose work is featured here all gave permission using this form. The associate instructors also gave their permission to show their comments using this form.
